The iCarsoft DE V4.0 bidirectional scan tool supports active component testing and full bidirectional control for most vehicle modules. It sends custom commands and retrieves real-time data to execute targeted functions, including window, mirror, and door lock testing, as well as throttle adjustment — allowing you to pinpoint faults quickly. While ordinary OBD scanners only read fault codes and give limited clues, the DE V4.0 goes further with full bidirectional capability. Q1 Is the software updated regularly? Are updates free?

Yes! The iCarsoft DE V4.0 includes lifetime free software upgrades via Wi-Fi. There are zero annual subscription fees or hidden costs. You pay once and get continuous software updates forever.

Q2 The DE V4.0 can't recognize my vehicle by AutoVIN — is the device faulty?

Not at all. AutoVIN depends on individual vehicle ECU protocols. If AutoVIN skips your car, simply use the Manual Selection mode — all diagnostic and service functions will work perfectly. Meanwhile, please send your VIN to our support team; we'll verify it and add it to our database in the next software update.

Q3 DTCs read normally but fail to clear, or reappear after clearance. Why?

Keep the ignition on and the engine off, and record freeze-frame data before clearing codes.

Persistent hardware faults need physical repair prior to code clearance.
Some fault codes in systems like SRS and ABS can only be cleared after finishing bidirectional tests.

Q4 The scanner powers on but fails to establish a diagnostic connection. What causes this?

Please work through these steps to troubleshoot:

Check vehicle compatibility: ensure your vehicle is covered by the DE V4.0 — refer to the vehicle coverage above.
Turn off power-saving: disable any eco / battery-saving modes that might shut down modules during diagnosis.
Update the device: connect to Wi-Fi and update both the firmware and vehicle software to the latest versions.
Check ignition: ensure the vehicle key is turned to the "ON" position.

Q5 My BMW uses an E-chassis / F-chassis / G-chassis. Does this tool support it?

Yes. The DE V4.0 supports a wide range of BMW generations — from modern G-chassis and F-chassis models back to most E-chassis vehicles. Pre-2001 E-chassis models (such as E30 / E36 / early E46) use a 20-pin round port and require the optional 20-pin adapter. For exact compatibility, please send us your VIN.
