The iCarsoft VOL V4.0 bidirectional scan tool supports active component testing and full bidirectional control for most vehicle modules. It sends custom commands and retrieves real-time data to execute targeted functions, including window, mirror, and door lock testing, as well as throttle adjustment — allowing you to pinpoint faults quickly. While ordinary OBD scanners only read fault codes and give limited clues, the VOL V4.0 goes further with full bidirectional capability. You can directly command individual components: cycle the ABS pump motor, operate window regulators, activate the fuel pump, control throttle opening, and run output tests on almost all onboard modules. Identify the faulty part in minutes — without relying on trial-and-error.

What's the difference between the VOL V4.0 and the older VOL V3.0?
Two main upgrades. Vehicle coverage: the VOL V4.0 lets you download 2 additional vehicle make groups on top of the pre-installed Volvo/Saab software. Hardware: the V4.0 features a 5-inch touchscreen, Android OS, Quad-Core processor, 64GB storage, and a 5000mAh battery.
The VOL V4.0 cannot recognize my vehicle by AutoVIN — is the device faulty?
No, it does not mean the device is faulty. You can send your vehicle VIN to our support team and we will check whether AutoVIN supports your vehicle. If it is not available yet, you can manually select the vehicle model to diagnose — normal functions are not affected. Our R&D team will add your VIN to the database and release relevant updates later.
DTCs read normally but fail to clear, or reappear after clearing. Why?
Keep the ignition on and the engine off, and record freeze-frame data before clearing codes. Persistent hardware faults need physical repair before the code will clear. Some SRS and ABS codes can only be cleared after completing the related bidirectional tests.
The scanner powers on but fails to establish a diagnostic connection. What causes this issue?
Verify your vehicle model and production year — the VOL V4.0 supports Volvo, Saab and other downloaded brands — petrol from 2001 onward, diesel OBD2 from 2004 onward. Disable the vehicle's power-saving mode, and update the firmware and software to the latest version.
The VOL V4.0 comes pre-installed with 1 vehicle group (Volvo and SAAB) at the factory. After purchase, 2 further vehicle group can be downloaded free of charge. Please check the vehicle group table below.
