But sometimes, your Land Rover doesn't have a warning light on, yet it just doesn't feel right. Maybe the idle is a bit rough, the throttle feels laggy off the line, or the stability control kicks in too early after an alignment.

This is where "Adaptation Resets" come in. These are the hidden procedures that fine-tune how your car's computers talk to its sensors. In this guide, we'll unlock three advanced functions in your iCarsoft LR V4.0 that will restore that factory-smooth driving feel.

Fine-Tune Your Ride with Professional Adaptations

1. SAS Reset (Steering Angle Sensor)

The Symptom: You just got a wheel alignment, or you disconnected the battery for a long time. Now, your steering wheel is straight, but your DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) light flashes randomly on turns, or the turn signals don't cancel correctly.

The Fix: The car's computer lost track of where "dead center" is. An SAS reset tells the ECU exactly where the steering wheel is positioned.

How to do it:
  1. Park on level ground with the steering wheel perfectly straight.
  2. On the LR V4.0, select "Service" -> "SAS".
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts. It may ask you to turn the wheel fully to the left lock, hold for 2 seconds, then fully to the right lock, hold for 2 seconds, and return to center.
  4. The tool will confirm the calibration is complete. The DSC light should turn off.

2. ETC Relearn (Electronic Throttle Control)

The Symptom: Your engine idle seems erratic (hunting up and down), sluggish acceleration from a stop, or hesitant shifting. This often happens after cleaning the throttle body or replacing the air filter.

The Fix: Over time, carbon builds up on the throttle blade. The computer adjusts for this. When you clean it (or over time), the computer needs to "relearn" the range of motion of the throttle valve to ensure smooth airflow.

How to do it:
  1. Ignition ON, engine OFF. Don't touch the accelerator pedal.
  2. Select "Service" -> "ETC" (Electronic Throttle Control).
  3. Select the relearn procedure. You might hear the throttle body clicking under the hood as it opens and closes fully to find its limits.
  4. Once complete, turn the ignition off for 30 seconds before starting the engine. The idle should now be silky smooth.

3. Injector Coding (Diesel Models Focus)

The Symptom: You replaced one or more fuel injectors on your TDV6 or SDV6 engine. Now the engine runs rough, knocks loudly, or smokes excessively.

The Fix: Diesel injectors are not perfectly identical. Each one has a unique multi-digit calibration code printed on it. You must tell the Engine ECU this code so it knows exactly how much fuel to spray for that specific injector.

⚠️ Important: Failure to code new injectors can lead to severe engine damage or rapid clogging of your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) due to over-fueling.
How to do it:
  1. Write down the code from the new injector before you install it (it's hard to read once installed!).
  2. Select "Service" -> "Injector".
  3. Select the cylinder number you replaced (e.g., Cylinder 1).
  4. Use the LR V4.0 touchscreen keypad to enter the new calibration code exactly as written on the injector.
  5. Save the data. The engine should now run smoothly.
