Stop and arrange a tow for a flashing MIL, severe shaking, repeated stalling, unsafe power loss, a no-start in traffic, smoke, a burning smell, visible fuel, raw-fuel odor, wiring heat, abnormal knocking, or an oil-pressure, charging, or temperature warning.

Direct-injection and diesel systems can retain dangerous fuel pressure after shutdown, and some injector drivers use high voltage or shaped current.   3. Inspect the cool, powered-down system
